He does seem to have more ape characteristics than monkey characteristics, but there's no reason to expect that he should resemble any species in the real world (he doesn't look like a chimp to me). He is identified in every book that I can get my hands on as a monkey. I don't know when the above question was asked, but the main page now says that George was a chimp. Why is it that this is not mentioned on the main page? George is not a monkey, George is clearly a juvinile chimp.
